Honour for Kath Elias

Sunday 21 November 2010

The high regard in which current Cardiff AAC Membership Secretary Kath Elias is held in schools' athletics was further underlined at last Saturday's Welsh Schools Annual General Meeting in Llandrindod Wells. Having served a three term as the association's Vice Chairman, Kath was installed with the Chairman's chain of office as she succeeded Gwilym Williams MBE in the post, which she will hold for two years.

Kath, who is a past Chairman of both Cardiff AAC and Cardiff & the Vale of Glamorgan Schools' Association, is also Chairman of the Schools' International Athletics Board, the co-ordinating body for the SIAB series of schools internationals in cross-country, track & field and indoor combined events.

In her address to the AGM, she referred to schools athletics as 'the life-blood of our sport', and she acknowleged the importance of having well supported and organised district associations and competitions. 2011 will be an exciting year for the association with the cross-country championships marking 50 years since it was first held with an Aviva Golden Celebration National at Brecon on March 16th, while, on the track, it is the one-in-four years occasion for Welsh Schools to host the Aviva SIAB Under17 international, at Leckwith on Saturday, July 16th.

Kath is pictured receiving her chain of office from Gwilym.

Many congratulations Kath.
