Monday 3 August 2009
Cardiff AAC was well represented in the Celtic Games, held in Carmarthen on Saturday last, 1st August. Even if the Welsh team could manage only third place behind first placers Ireland with Scotland second and Ulster fourth, there were some good performances from Cardiff athletes. Lewis Newton was a rare Welsh winner, taking the Under 18 men's pole vault with 4.40m while Sam Cogan set another personal best of 40.46 in the Under 18 women's 300m.
Tom Knight took second place in the Under 18 men's 200m in 22.5 a position matched by Daniel Sharrem in the Under 18 men's 100m hurdles (14.1sec) and Mica Moore in the Under 18 women's 100m (12.23sec). Ryan Leonard managed second in the Under 16 boy's javelin (42.62m) and Ffion Bodilly third in the Under 16 girl's high jump.
