Christian wins again
Sunday 31 July 2011
Cardiff's Christian Malcolm booked his place in the British team for the world championships in Daegu/Korea later this year by retaining his 200m title in this weekend's World Trials and UK Championships in Birmingham.
He also clinched a sprint relay place by placing fourth in the 100m, having clocked 10.17, his fastest time for 10 years, in the semi final.
Other Cardiff medallists in Birmingham were Gareth Warburton (3rd in the 800m), Bryony Raine (3rd in the pole vault) and Lianne Clarke (3rd in the javelin).
European silver medallist Rhys Williams will have been disappointed with his 4th place in his speciality 400m hurdles, having paid the price for a slow start to the race. Likewise, Joe Thomas was hoping for better than fifth in what was a tactical 800m.
20 year old Charlotte Arter did well to reach the final of the women's 1500m, having established a personal best time of 4:23.18 in her heat. She was 9th in the final in 4:26.83.
