Welcome to Wales' Premier Athletic Club

From athletics to politics

Friday 12 February 2010

Mike Jones-Pritchard was Cardiff AAC's secretary, a key position in the club, from 1987 to 1993. He was a middle distance runner and, whilst involved with the club, met his wife Janine, who was the ladies' club captain from 1983 to 1986.

By profession, Mike is an architect who runs his own business but has become more and more interested in local and national politics and was recently elected to be the chairman of the North Cardiff Conservative Association.

Living in Tongwynlais, Mike became involved in the local Community Council and soon found himself its secretary (no doubt his club experience stood him in good stead). At the last Council elections, he was elected as a Cardiff County Councillor, representing Whitchurch & Tongwynlais, and serves on the Planning and Appeals Committees.

His interest in politics took him into the North Cardiff Conservative Association and he was its Vice-Chairman for three years before stepping up a couple of weeks ago to be Chairman. With a general election rapidly approaching, he can look forward to a very busy period.

In his spare time (does he have any?) he is a scout leader in Whitchurch.

Mike retains his interest in Cardiff AAC and, with his professional qualifications, has been very helpful. He provided useful advice during our negotiations with Cardiff Council over the move from the old stadium to the new and where our club facilities would fit in.
