Gwent League still on
Friday 3 December 2010
Tomorrow's Gwent League cross country event at Blaise Castle, Bristol is still on, despite the continuing cold weather.
The course was inspected yesterday and declared runnable but athletes are advised to bring off road trainers as an alternative to short spikes.
The organisers have issued the following statement:
"The Gwent League course at Blaise Castle has been reviewed and is fit for use, but competitors are advised to bring off-road trainers / fell shoes as an option: Where the course runs along earth tracks, the tracks are frozen, but in general acceptably smooth and free from ice.
As always, competitors should aim to arrive early to give themselves time to walk the course. There are a couple of places where muddy ruts have frozen unevenly, but these are only in very short stretches, with smooth running to the side. We found just one small spot where there is some ice on the ground, but again there is smooth running to the side.
The forecast is for showers, in which case the course may revert to muddy, so we do urge competitors to bring options both for firm and for muddy running. Please also remember that parking is limited for this event, and you may have to walk to the course."
