Welcome to Wales' Premier Athletic Club

Welsh Junior League team

Monday 31 May 2010

Please can any junior boys (under11, under 13 and under 15) who wish to compete in Newport next Sunday, 6th June, please contact Kay Chapman asap on 07749 716151 so they can be selected.

This is because boy's team manager Mark Muller will be unavailable for this match.

Next Sunday's match will be the third in this year's series and follows a very successful outing to Hereford on 22 May when the team cames first and heads the league.

The juniors from Cardiff AAC were up early to travel to Hereford Leisure Centre and Track to compete in the 2nd match of the Welsh Junior League. It was a very hot still day so it was ideal for producing good times but it was too hot for many as there was not enough shade at the track - there wasn't any!

Cardiff AAC were fortunate to produce another winning result which means that the standings in the Welsh junior league after two matches are as follows:

1st.  Cardiff (2107pts);   2nd.  Cwmbran (1371pts);   3rd.  Hereford (1273pts);  4th.  Newport (1238pts);  5th.  Aberdare (547pts);  6th.  Rhondda (454pts);  7th. Blaenau Gwent (330pts);  8th. Chepstow (4pts).

Cardiff AAC winners at Hereford were;

Under 15 girls:   Lara Durrani (300m);   Rebecca Foley (75m Hurdles);   Laura Trigg (High Jump);   Sally Nicholas (Pole Vault); 4x100m relay.

Under 15 boys:   Ryan Cooper (100m & 200m);  Jacob Preece (400m & 800m);   James Sharrem (80m Hurdles);   Adrian Lawrence (High Jump);   Matteo Holmes (Shot & Javelin);   Jac Palmer (Hammer);   4x100m relay.

Under 13 girls:   Bethan Register (800m);   Emma Ligthart (1500m);   Sian Purcell (70m Hurdles).

Under 13 boys:   Harry Hillman (High Jump);   Oliver Hunt (Long Jump).

Under 11 boys:   Deio Hughes (200m & Shot).

Several athletes achieved League Records as well and these were:

Rebecca Foley - 75m hurdles - improved her own record from last season.

Jacob Preece - 400m - took the record previously held by Matthew Antoniazzi of Cwmbran.

U15boys - 4x100m - improved their own record.

Jac Palmer - Hammer - took the record previously held by Matthew Field of Cardiff AAC.

Oliver Hunt - Long Jump - took the record previously held by Connor Kidner of Cardiff AAC.

Deio Hughes - Shot - took the record previously held by Ethan Bridge of Rhondda.

As well as all the successes mentioned above there were many Cardiff athletes with second and third placings and many athletes got personal bests due to the good weather conditions. Our strength is shown by how many athletes were competing in Cardiff vests, with all of them contributing to our massive points total after just two matches. We need to keep this up to ensure a place in the Welsh League Cup Final which is due to take place in Brecon on Sunday 22nd August.

The athletes of the match at Hereford were Rebecca Foley for her win and league record in the 75m Hurdles and Jacob Preece for his wins in both the 400m and 800m and his league record in the 400m. Well done to you both!

And finally, a big thank you to Phil Banning and Ceri Morris for stepping in as team managers as neither Kay Chapman nor Mark Muller was available for this match.
