Cross country cancelled
Friday 10 December 2010
Owing to the continuing adverse weather conditions, the Inter regional cross country championships scheduled to be held on Sunday next, 12th December at Builth Wells have been cancelled.
A decision on whether the event will be rescheduled or amalgamated into another event will be made in the near future.
An inspection of the Builth Wells course this afternoon by Derek Price and James Thie has deemed the venue unsuitable for Sundays event.
The current thaw is having no effect on the ground conditions, and the car parking area remains an ice rink.
The lying snow is not shifting on the long tufted grass. In addition the toilet block pipes are frozen.
Another key point is that the expected thaw will now end on Saturday plunging Saturday evening’s temperature, making Sunday a huge risk.
When all has been weighed up, it leaves little alternative, given the distances being travelled, other than to cancel Sundays event.
Welsh Athletics apologises for any inconvenience caused, but hopes you realise this decision has been made in the interests of all involved.
