Jamie collects another gold
Friday 8 January 2010
Cardiff AAC life member Jamie Baulch has added another world championship gold medal to his collection - 13 years after the race.
Jamie was a member of the 4x400m relay team that was placed second in the 1997 World Championships in Athens. Silver became gold after the winning USA team was disqualified when Antonio Pettigrew confessed to a doping offence.
Jamie and the rest of the British team will at long last receive their medals.
This is a fitting result for Jamie who has a staggering collection of medals from major championships.

Coached as a junior by Jock Anderson, Jamie's breakthrough came in 1991 when he won a silver medal in the European Junior Championships as a member of the 4x100m relay team. He followed this the following year with a gold medal in the World Junior Championships, also in the 4x100m relay.
As a senior, he turned to the 400m with great success. Selected for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, he ran a storming leg to help the 4x400m relay team to the silver medal. This was the first of a string of medals. In 1997, he won the silver medal in the individual 400m at the World Indoor Championships and two years later produced perhaps his best ever performance by taking Gold at the World Indoor Championships in Japan.
After the silver/gold of the 1997 World Championships, 1998 brought a gold medal in the European Championships 4x400m relay and bronze in the same event for Wales at the Commonwealth Games.
At the 2002 European Championships, Jamie was again a member of Great Britain's gold medal winning 4x400m relay team and went on to help Wales to a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games of the same year.
Jamie's medal winning career ended on a high note at the 2003 World Indoor Championships where he won silver in the individual 400m and gold in the 4x400m relay.
Jamie was an ever present member of the Great Britain and Wales teams throughout his career and also competed for the club whenever possible.
Cardiff AAC is very proud that Jamie Baulch has been a very distinguished and popular member and is delighted that this final medal will now be his.
Well done Jamie.
