Joe and Gareth in semis

Cardiff's Joe Thomas (pictured) and Gareth Warburton both qualified comfortably for the semi finals of the 800m.

Running in heat three earlier today, Gareth was an automatic qualifier, coming home third in an easy 1:51.64.

Joe ran in heat four, finishing second in 1:50.17.

Times at this stage of the competition are unimportant; both athletes are capable of running much faster and we wish them well in the semi finals tomorrow.

Tomorrow will see the semi finals of the 400m hurdles and both Rhys Williams and Dai Greene should progress to the final.

Also tomorrow, Christian Malcolm will be lining up in the first round of the 200m and Brett Morse will contest the discus qualifiers.

Finally, congratulations to Carys Parry (silver medal in the hammer) for Wales' first athletics medal.
