Welcome to Wales' Premier Athletic Club

Kath Elias is chairman

Friday 23 July 2010

Cardiff's former general secretary and current membership secretary Kath Elias has been elected as chairman of the Schools' International Athletic Board (SIAB), thus adding a further chapter to her already long and impressive list of achievements in the sport.

Kath is pictured being congratulated by Welsh Athletics President John Penny.

Kath was elected at the Annual General Meeting of SIAB held in Glasgow last Saturday, 17th July.

The former Neath Girls’ Grammar School pupil, who gained Welsh Schools honours at hurdles and in the relay, has been a wonderful servant to schools athletics in the Cardiff area, and to Cardiff AAC, since she started teaching at Fitzalan High School in 1969.

Since 1996, Kath has not only been a key figure in the Cardiff & the Vale of Glamorgan Schools Association and Cardiff AAC but has gone on to make a significant contribution to the Welsh Schools’ Athletic Association, initially as the National Track & Field Secretary and currently as the Association’s Vice Chairman.  In November, she is due to succeed Gwilym Williams MBE as Chairman, a post previously held by Cardiff AAC members Graham Webb, John Phillips and Wynford Leyshon.

Last Saturday, Kath attended the Annual General Meeting of the Schools’ International Athletic Board (SIAB) – the body that organises the annual cross-country, track and field and indoor combined events internationals for the top young athletes in England, Scotland, all Ireland and Wales and will hold the post as chairman until the next AGM on Saturday, July 16th, 2011, the day that the next Aviva SIAB Under 17 track & field international is due to be staged in Cardiff at Leckwith.

Well done on your new appointment, Kath, and Good Luck with the organisation of next summer’s SIAB match!
