Medals galore

The Welsh under 20 and under 17 championships were held in Carmarthen on Saturday last, 10th July and Cardiff athletes topped the medal table with no fewer than 36 medals, including 15 gold.

Pictured is Lewis Newton who won the under 20 pole vault with 4.20m.

Jamaul Whyte celebrated his selection as Welsh schools' team captain by winning both the under 17 age group 100m and the 200m.

Matthew Field was also a double winner, taking gold in both the under 17 shot put and discus; as was Adam Bitchell in the under 20 800m and 1500m.

Gold: 
Under 20 men: 
Adam Bitchell (800m & 1500m);  Lewis Newton (pole vault);  Ross McKenzie (triple jump).
Under 20 women:  Sam Cogan (400m).
Under 17 men:  Jamaul Whyte  (100m & 200m);  Rhys Williams (100m hurdles);  Matthew Field (shot put & discus);  Ryan Leornard (javelin).
Under 17 women:  Ffion Bodilly (high jump);  Lucy Daly (pole vault);  Megan O'Sullivan (triple jump).
Under 15 boys:  Jacob Preece (1000m walk). 

Silver:
Under 20 men: 
Gareth Hopkins (100m & 200m);  Oliver Jefferies (110m hurdles);  Jacob Matthews (shot put & discus).
Under 17 men:  Michael Prentice (100m & 200m);  Alex Coomber (800m);  Tyron Blake (high jump);  David Callan (pole vault);  Ryan Leonard (discus).
Under 17 women:  Jamie-Leigh Bowen (100m & 200m).

Bronze:
Under 20 men: 
Abdi Saleban (800m).
Under 20 women:  Gwenllian Williams (200m & high jump);  Danielle Mill (400m hurdles).
Under 17 men:  Tyron Blake (100m hurdles);  Jonathan Clements (400m hurdles);  James McGuire (long jump).
Under 17 women:  Bethan Daw (1500m).
