Medals Galore for Cardiff

Sunday 15 May 2011

The combined South and East Wales Regional Championships were held yesterday, 14th May, in cool but dry conditions at Cardiff International Sports Stadium.

Many club athletes set personal best performances in amassing a total of no less than 110 medals.

Amongst many excellent early season performances, championship best performances were set by Joe Thomas (SM 400m - 47.29), Lianne Clarke (SW Javelin 49.99m), Bradley Cole (U20M Javelin - 55.26m) and Elliott Slade (U17M 800m - 1:55).

Harry Hillman (pictured) and Thomas Trottman each won three gold medals.

Clean sweeps of all the medals were achieved in the under 17 men's 800m (Elliott Slade, Jacob Preece and Jacob David), the under 20 women's 100m (Mica Moore, Jamie Leigh-Bowen and Sara Otung) and the under 15 boys' 1500 (John Cove, Dafydd George and Ciaran Lewis); in the latter Cardiff took the first six places.

Three medals apiece were won by Harry Hillman (golds in the under 13 boys' 100m, 75mH and high jump), Thomas Trottman (golds in the under 15 boys' 100m, high jump and long jump), Matteo Holmes ( golds in the under 17 men's discus and javelin and silver in the hammer) and Lara Durrani (gold in the under 17 women's 300m and silvers in the 80mH and 300mH).
