Men's team on course

Cardiff's British League men's team travelled to Leeds for a crucial third round match on Saturday last, 1st August.
Last minute withdrawals weakened the team slightly but a good all round performance meant that the team holds on to one of the two promotion places with only one match to go.
David Guest, returning from the European Junior Championships, contributed valuable points competing in four events including a leg of the 4 x 400m relay which Cardiff won.
David won the pole vault A, came third in the 110m hurdles and fourth in the long jump. His brother Stephen won the B pole vault. David's efforts were surpassed by ever willing club stalwart Matt Ledger who contested five events (110mH B; Hammer; High Jump; Javelin and Triple Jump). There's club spirit for you.
Club Captain for the day, Dave Coleman, led by example, winning the Discus A and taking third in the shot put A. It was also good to see Matt Elias in club colours (hopefully free from injury) winning the 400m B in 49.28sec.
Going into the fourth and final round, Cardiff is in second place but with a crucial 2 point margin over third placed Thames Valley Harriers plus a comfortable 78 points advantage in event points. Another solid performance in the final match at Kingston on 22 August should clinch promotion. Let's hope so.
