Welcome to Wales' Premier Athletic Club

Rhys & Christian in team

Tuesday 6 July 2010

Cardiff's Christian Malcolm and Rhys Williams have both been selected for Great Britain's team for the European Championships which start in Barcelona in three weeks time.

Christian clinched his selection with a season's best 200m time of 20.50 in Switzerland on Sunday last, 4th July, after his fine victory in the UK Trials in Birmingham.

Rhys has been enjoying his best season for four years, since he took the bronze medal at the last European Championships held in Gothenburg in 2006.

He is ranked second in Europe behind fellow Welshman Dave Greene and will be hoping add to his medal collection in Barcelona.

He has ducked under 50 sec. for the 400m hurdles on six occasions this year and has been steadily improving, clocking 49.53 last Sunday, also in Switzerland.

Christian Malcolm has enjoyed a glittering international career and it is good to see him back once again in a British vest at a major championship. He has been selected for the sprint relay squad in addition to his speciality 200m.

Christian was a brilliant junior, winning World Championship titles at both 100m and 200m and also made the final of the 200m at the Bejing Olympic Games, finishing fifth in a race that produced Usain Bolt's incredible world record time.

Congratulations to both and good luck in Barcelona.

Rhys and Christian will enjoy plenty of Cardiff AAC support in Barcelona where a group of eighteen "Cardiff on Tour" supporters will be there to cheer them on (not forgetting Dave Greene of course).
