Welcome to Wales' Premier Athletic Club

Richie Gardiner in London

Sunday 26 April 2009

Cardiff's Richie Gardiner, wearing the distinctive Cardiff vest, continued his run of excellent performances in today's Flora London Marathon. He was the third British runner to finish, in a time of 2h.19.48. Congratulations, Richie.

The picture shows Richie running in today's race near Blackfriars Bridge and was generously provided by leading athletics photographer Mark Shearman.

Richie is a highly experienced marathon runner and a long standing member of the club and has completed several London Marathons. His overall position in today's race, won by Olympic Champion Sammy Wanjiru in record time, was 18th and his time only just short of his best London time of 2h.18.41, set in 2006. A consistent performer, Richie proves that it is possible to combine a high level of training and competitive running with a full time job (he is a policeman). His results in London have been:

2009:  2h. 19. 48  (18th)
2008:  2h. 20. 28  (22nd)
2007:  2h. 20. 26  (13th)
2006:  2h. 18. 41  (23rd)
2004:  2h. 26. 08  (56th)
2002:  2h. 23. 21  (30th)

Well done also to other Cardiff runners in today's London Marathon.
