Final Gwent League
Monday 8 March 2010
The season's Gwent League series ended at Blaise Castle, Bristol on Saturday last, 6th March, and saw further excellent performances from Cardiff AAC juniors.
The under 13 boys and under 20 ladies finished as overall league champions, the under 17 girls were second and the under 15 boys third.
Mike Ward produced another great run to become the overall individual League under 15 champion.
John Cove put in an excellent individual performance to finish second overall in the under 13 category and help the team (Rhys Gooch, Ciaran Lewis, Tom Edmunds, Sam Curwen and John Cove) to the team prize.
The Under 15 boys team finished 3rd in the league despite fielding the bare minimum number of athletes in several fixtures. Mike Ward produced another excellent performance in Bristol finishing in 1st place, repeating the firsts he achieved in Bridgend and Bath. This meant that Mike Ward was the overall league champion. Another Cardiff AAC athlete with very consistent performances was Jack Gooch who finished 4th overall in the league. The boys team (pictured) was Jacob Preece, Mike Ward, Tom Bevan and Jack Gooch.
The Under 20 ladies (Vicky Jackson, Alice Johnston and Lauren Regan) were also champions and the Under 17 girls (Harriet Morris, Zoe Thomas, Lucy Harvey and Bethan Daw) finished in second place.
As the Cross country season draws to a close we would like to congratulate all the athletes that have competed for the club this season. A big thank you must also go to all the parents that have got the athletes to training every week and travelled to all the various venues we have competed at. And let's not forget Paul Darney who brings the Cardiff AAC tent (and puts it up) at all the cross country fixtures. Many athletes have appreciated the tent when the weather has been bad.
The final thank you, and congratulations, must go to all the team managers including Kay Chapman and Ceri Morris who have done such a good job with the junior teams.
