Teaching Real Athletics for Cardiff Kids - Real Athletics Training Sessions |
Track Rats is a great way to introduce young people to athletics, supervised constantly
by experienced, highly-trained individuals who have the welfare and well-being
of YOUR child in mind. All coaches are UKAthletics & Welsh Athletics trained, qualified and registered. Sessions run from 6pm to 7pm Mondays and Thursdays |
Athletes are allowed up to four sessions as an introduction/taster period and are
then expected to join Cardiff A.A.C. [The normal entry fee to the stadium reception (Cardiff CBC) has to be paid] Competition is available at all levels and is encouraged and expected. These include local 'open' meetings through to the Welsh & UK age-group Championships, including the winter indoor series and Indoor Championships. There are also a number of cross-country races during the winter period that are open to all athletes. ALL athletes will be expected to compete, especially when selected for Cardiff AAC Teams. Athletes will need to purchase a club vest, to compete. These are available from the clubhouse on Monday evenings. Athletes who show promise may be invited to Area or National training squads/sessions. |
Special sessions will also be led by a physiotherapist, a dietician and
International Athletes and their coaches. Cardiff AAC has a "reception" group for young athletes (Year 6 and upwards). This will be full teaching, coaching and training sessions for Track & Field Athletics. Members will be trained in all athletics events, but perhaps even more important, young athletes will be taught: ·Importance of warm-up & warm-down. ·Correct running posture & style. ·Importance of mobility, and Injury prevention. Good training techniques. Track safety & etiquette. Equipment / clothing needed: ·Initially only 'trainers' & suitable, warm clothing for an active session. ·An athletics 'wet-suit', (lightweight nylon anorak & trousers) would be a good investment."Spikes" are really needed as the athlete progresses. ·ADVICE WILL BE GIVEN ON ALL OF THESE SUGGESTIONS |
Cardiff A.A.C. has teams in all major Welsh & UK Leagues. British Athletics League (BAL) - Senior Male Athletes. UK Women's Athletics League, (UKWL) -Senior Female Athletes. National Junior League, (NJL) - U20 Male/Female Athletes. National Young Athletes League, (NAYL) - U17 / U15 / U13 Male & Female Welsh League, (WL) - Senior Male/Female Athletes Welsh Junior League, (WJL) - U20/U17/U15 Male/Female Athletes. Gwent Cross-Country League, (GCCL) - Male & Female (All age groups) |
All Cardiff AAC. members are volunteers, giving up their time with no payment.
This includes all coaches, team managers, clubhouse canteen staff, etc.
The Club therefore asks all parents if they can help, whenever possible, with the running of the club and the teams. This could be as: - ·Assistant team managers, (that is those who can give out numbers and get athletes to the right event at the right time), ·Track judges/field officials, (that is those who can line up 6 athletes and/or measure a jump!!!) are always needed. ·Club helpers/officials. (as with all voluntary organisations CAAC always needs those who can help on committees, write letters, help with the clubhouse - canteen, etc. |
