Rhys on ice
Thursday 23 September 2010
Before (hopefully) jetting off tomorrow to Wales Commonwealth Games holding camp in Doha, European silver medallist Rhys Williams took time out to relax at the Nottingham Panthers v Coventry Blaze ice hockey match at the Panthers Lair in Nottingham.
Rhys was supporting his friend, Nottingham Panthers and Great Britain International Matthew Myers, who hails from Cardiff and Rhys is pictured dropping the puck to start the match.
The Panthers were obviously inspired by Rhys's support as they won the match 6:4.
At the time of writing, there is a great worry over whether all the facilities in Delhi will be ready for the start of the Games in only a few days time, with particular concern over the athletes's accommodation which some have described as unfit for occupation. It is fortunate that the Welsh team is spending a few days in Doha and not travelling directly to Delhi and it would be a great blow to the athletes who have put so much time and effort into preparing for this once every four years opportunity to represent Wales if, as some have suggested, they had to pull out at the last minute.
Let's hope that, in the end, the Games go on and that Wales does well.
Good luck to all.
