Young Athletes lead
Monday 1 June 2009
Cardiff's Young Athletes' League team gained a convincing win over rivals Halesowen in Saturday's match at Neath to put them in a strong position for immediate promotion back to the Premier Division. Cardiff scored 453 points against Halesowen's 345. Cwmbran were third and Llanelli & Neath fourth.
A glorious sunny day and a truly fantastic result for Cardiff AAC’s Young Athletes Team who once again showed us what they are made of and won Round three of the NYAL League on Sunday 31st May in Neath. This was an important win to secure for the team as they were competing against Halesowen who are battling against Cardiff to secure a position at the top of the table. Once again the list of event winners is as lengthy as it comes. See below.
We are particularly proud of our U17 squad: the small U17W team who covered all events between them and scored some truly valuable points and the U17M who turned out in their droves, despite both groups facing a GCSE Maths exam on Monday 1 June. Well done!
Thank you also to all our supporters, parents and Jamie-Lee’s boyfriend who basked in the sunshine all in the name of sport!
Athletes of the match are Jamaul Whyte, U17M who won the 200m,100m , LJ and 4x 100 relay and Cindy Kitenge U15G who competed for the first time in the SP and threw an amazing 9.13 m (G3) as well as winning the 100m and 4 x 100 relay.
Our thanks to all our officials and parent volunteers who are always so supportive and without whom we could not do this: Tony Balmont, Roger Grindle, Graham Webb, Howard Brown, Tracy Cogan, Sharon Lawrence, Dave Jones, Stephen Bailey, Gary Garrison, Kyle Garrison, & Mike Leonard. A heartfelt thanks to you all.
